What led you to go freelance?

An opportunity to work from my home office arrived from my former employer Time Warner; I left a full time job as Art Director at Musician Magazine to go and work freelance also because the pay would be the same as a full time position.

Do you work primarily for publishing companies or independent authors or a mix?

My work has mostly been with publishing companies, just recently it has also gone to independent authors.

What’s the best part of doing what you do?

I would have to say that designing with bold typography and collaborating with illustrators and photographers brings me great joy.

What do you know now that you wish you had known when you started your freelance journey?

Continue to work with a group of clients, don’t isolate your design business by working for only one company.

How many books are in your TBR (to be read) pile/list? And do you plan to read them all eventually?

I currently have one book I am getting through slower than usual its called ‘The View from Bora, Bora’.

Do you prefer physical books or ebooks?

Physical books are still my favorite way of reading, I have tried ebooks but prefer the larger format of books.

Do you have any advice for anyone considering a career in publishing?

Continue to network and do good work, use illustration.
